FAQ's
CANDLE QUESTIONS
"Do you use toxic ingredients in your candles?"
NO! Our candles are made from an all-natural coconut wax blend, the fragrances we use are phthalate free, and our wicks are made from lead-free 100% cotton. Check out our Ingredients page for more info!
"How long will my candle burn for?"
Our candles burn for up to 50 hours. To ensure the longevity of your candle, read our Candle Care page for tips and tricks.
"Where are nou candles made?"
Our candles are made in a small West LA home. We hope to soon have our very own studio!
"My candle has black smoke...help"
It’s time to trim your wick! If a wick is not trimmed regularly, it will begin to form a sooty black mushroom head. When lit, this black mushroom will create a smoky and aggressive flame that can be potentially dangerous. Remember to trim your wick to ¼” each time before lighting. For more information on how to take care of your candle, read our Candle Care page.
"Why are there air pockets along the sides of my candle?"
This is common and happens due to a decrease in temperature. When the glass becomes too cold, the wax will begin to pull away. This has no effect on the performance of the candle, but can look rather odd! To fix this problem, simply place your candle in the sun for about an hour to warm the glass up.
"What do I do if my candle begins to have a sink hole?"
If this happens, it is most likely due to the candle being burnt for short periods at a time. To ensure the longevity of your candle, allow the candle to burn long enough that the melted wax reaches the edge of the glass. This will ensure a clean and even burn right down to the very last amount!
"SOS my wick is off-center"
You will need to light your candle for about an hour to melt the wax. Then blow out the flame and gently guide the wick back towards the middle of the glass. Be careful to not burn yourself!
"Why are two of my nou candles different colors?"
While normally transparent, some fragrances can be slightly more yellow in color than others. This is common in fragrances such as orange, amber, and bamboo. Don't worry, we do not put any dyes in our candles.
